MACOMB, IL – An exhibition by artist Joseph Lappie will be on view in the Western Illinois University Art Gallery through Saturday, March 7.

The exhibition by Lappie, an assistant professor of printmaking and book arts at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, is a series of characters inspired by a travelogue by Pliny the Elder, as presented in the Nuremberg Chronicles. The display, titled "Joseph Lappie: Always Towards the Space and Moment," follows the characters as they march through a procession through various terrains.

A reception for the exhibition will run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 in the WIU Art Gallery. Lappie will speak about the exhibit at 5 p.m. He will also conduct a printmaking workshop for WIU art and English students from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday.

Lappie received his bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and graphic design from Ball State University and his master of fine arts in interdisciplinary book and paper arts from Columbia College in Chicago. In addition to teaching at St. Ambrose, Lappie runs the Baker Gallery, a space devoted to artists' books, printmaking, works on paper and textural art.
