BOT Approves Collective Bargaining Agreement

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved a five-year collective bargaining agreement for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 (Mechanical Maintenance/Heating Plant Unit) at its Dec. 19 Board meeting on the Macomb campus.

The collective bargaining agreement with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 (Mechanical Maintenance/Heating Plant Unit), which was ratified Nov. 12, 2014 for the period of Aug. 1, 2014 through July 31, 2019, sets salary increases of 2 percent for years one and two and 1 percent in year three of the agreement. Increases for the remaining two years will be the same as the across-the-board increase for non-represented civil service employees. Local 399 represents 30 employees in this unit.

The Board also accepted receipt of the final report of the WIU Open Access Task Force. Each public university was required to establish an Open Access to Research Task Force by Jan. 1, 2014. The task forces were charged with considering how a public university can best further the open access goals outlined in the Open Access to Research Articles Western's task force was led by Dean of Libraries Michael Lorenzen.

Other items approved by the Board of Trustees included awarding an honorary doctorate to WIU Alumnus Hyuk Jong Kim, president of Gwangju University, Korea; and the auditing department charter.
