MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety Officer Jerel Jones has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

Jones was hired in his current position in May 2007, and he currently works in OPS' investigative division.

According to his nominator, Jones "continuously shows outstanding performance in carrying out duties and responsibilities."

"He puts in extra time and stays after scheduled working hours to complete an assignment or an investigation," his nominator said. "A student who interned with the department added that Jerel is really good at making students feel comfortable enough to give information on a crime."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The nominator also said Jones does not hesitate to help fellow officers and participates with other officers in presenting a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) program.

"During the Fall 2013 semester, there were several laptop thefts on campus," the nominator added. "One arrest had been made by other officers. Jerel was able to further the investigation and make two additional arrests to recover three computers. In a separate case, he identified $6,700 in loss to a few crime victims for possible restitution. Both of these examples are just a small part of what Jerel does to demonstrate his commitment to excellence and the work ethic he shows on a daily basis."

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
