Interviews Set for Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center Director Position

MACOMB, IL – Interviews for the Western Illinois University Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center's (GBCC) director position will be Monday, Oct. 27 through Tuesday, Nov. 4. Former GBCC Director Belinda Carr retired June 30.

Candidates selected for on-campus interviews are:

• James Britt, a community relations consultant, who is a former director of multicultural affairs at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a former director of African American student affairs at Northwestern University, Monday, Oct. 27.

He received his bachelor's degree in sociology and African-American African Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University and his master's degree in counseling education from the University of Virginia.

• George Jackson, former director of the office of multicultural student affairs at Illinois Wesleyan University and a former coordinator of diversity affairs at Fort Hays State University, Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Jackson received his bachelor's degree in communication and theatre arts from Taylor University in Indiana and his master's degree in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State University.

• Norris Chase, assistant director of the office of multicultural student services at Bradley University, Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Chase received a bachelor's degree in general management from Oakland University in Michigan and a master's degree in counselor education: student affairs from Clemson University in South Carolina.

An open session with campus and community members for each candidate will be held from 10-10:50 a.m. in the Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room. A session specifically for students to meet with each candidate is scheduled from 2-2:50 p.m. in the Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend.
