MACOMB, IL – United High School senior Caitlen Bishop, of Alexis, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which awards $10,000 per year to academically high-achieving students.

High school students with an ACT score of 30 or higher and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Bishop said she expects to major in nursing or forensic chemistry at Western.

"I chose Western because my English teacher went there and I admire her very much," Bishop said. "The deciding factor for me was the fact that Western is one of nine universities in the nation with a certain forensic chemistry program, which is my second choice of a major. More importantly, Western has a signature nursing program, and nursing is my first degree choice."

At Western, Bishop is considering participating in cross country, research and possibly studying abroad.

After graduation, Bishop would like to work as a registered nurse in a larger hospital. She is also considering furthering her education to become a nurse practitioner.

In high school, Bishop participated in cross country, track, student council, basketball and the WYSE and ICTM teams.
