MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Top Girls," by Caryl Churchill, Tuesday, Oct. 7-Thursday, Oct. 9 and Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Horrabin Theatre.

The play, which has been hailed as "the best British play ever by a woman dramatist," is being directed by WIU Assistant Professor Rachel Chaves.

"Top Girls" is a classic feminist text that reveals the world of women's experience at a pivotal moment in British history: the election of Margaret Thatcher as the Commonwealth's first female prime minister. Marlene, a professional success, but suffering from an empty personal life, embarks on a search for a sisterhood, and in doing so interacts with an eclectic group of historical and modern characters. The play simultaneously celebrates the achievements of women and asks grave questions regarding the competitive, capitalistic, patriarchal and destructive conditions through which such successes are achieved. Ultimately, the play asks, "Can women really have it all?"

Tickets for the general public are $15, senior citizens are $13 and WIU students will be admitted free with valid student identification.
