MACOMB, IL – Award-winning entertainer Rita Moreno will visit Western Illinois University Thursday, Oct. 9 for "A Night with Rita Moreno."

Moreno will speak at 6 p.m. in the University Union Heritage Room.

As the first female artist to ever win an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony award, Moreno will share her life story of acting and singing, as well as her contributions to transcend the discriminatory practices of Hollywood. She hopes to set a precedent for Latino actors to be recognized by talent, rather than ethnicity.

Moreno's career began at age 11 when her voice was used in Spanish language versions of American films. She has also appeared in countless films, including "Singing in the Rain," "The King and I" and "West Side Story."

In addition to her film career, Moreno has appeared numerous times on Broadway and television. This year, she was also cast in an NBC film, "Old Soul."

Moreno's performance, which is open free to the public, is part of WIU's celebration of Latino Heritage Month, which begins Sept. 16.

For more information, call Casa Latina Cultural Center at (309) 298-3379.
