WIU's OPS Conducts Enforcement Patrols

MACOMB, IL - As part of a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety (OPS) conducted increased traffic enforcement during the Memorial holiday period, May 2 - 26.

During this period, OPS officers conducted extra patrol/enforcement to enforce seat belt and impaired driving laws.

During the operations of this grant period OPS issued 17 citations, including 11 for seat belt violations and the arrest of one subject for driving under the influence of alcohol. Multiple citations were issued for various other offenses, such as disobeying a stop sign, failure to yield and no proof of insurance.

OPS will conduct additional enforcement campaigns in the future.
