His background in international education began with teaching in Krems, Austria, at middle schools and a vocational school.

Prior to coming to WIU, Kaesdorf taught ESL at the College of DuPage and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His tenure in international education has primarily included teaching ESL since 1982. In 2001, Wayne and Kaesdorf designed the curriculum and taught the classes for the first WESL Program for Korean students from Kwangju (now Gwangju) University. Both were actively involved in the CEA accreditation self-study and site visit of WESL Institute from 1998 to 2001.
