Sport Management Alum to Present '21st Century Skill Set' Feb. 20 at Spencer Recreation Center

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University alumnus JT Timmons will return to the Macomb campus this Thursday, Feb. 20, to present, "The Skill Set Needed for the 21st Century." Timmons' hour-long talk, which is part of the Visiting Lecture Series at Western, is set to start at 2 p.m. in the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center's Colgate Room.

Timmons earned his master's degree in sport management in the WIU Department of Kinesiology in 2002. He currently serves as the director of recreational services at the University of Iowa.

"I will be speaking about my experience at multiple-sized, private and public institutions, as well as the directorships I have served in and reflect on the budget similarities and differences in these various higher education settings," Timmons noted.

Prior to his current position at the University of Iowa, Timmons served as the director of recreational sports at the University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS, 2007-13), the director of campus recreation at St. Ambrose University (2002-07) and the facility/event supervisor at Augustana College (2001-02).

In 2013, Timmons completed the Institute for Aspiring Senior Student Affairs Officers through NASPA, the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education organization. In 2011, he received the UIS Division of Student Affairs Award for Excellence.

He is a certified coach in the American Sport Education Program and serves as a member of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services and of NASPA.

Timmons received his bachelor's degree from Monmouth College in 1999.
