MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University Campus Recreation and Century 21- Purdum-Epperson are sponsoring a Nearly Naked Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m., starting at the Hanson Field south entrance. The course will go through campus and end at Hanson Field.

The un-timed one-mile charity run will raise money for the Red Cross, Central Illinois Tornado Relief.

Participants can drop most of their clothes at the start of the event and pick them up at the finish line. It is up to the participants how much clothing they want to drop, but Campus Recreation is asking participants to be respectful and stay with the theme "nearly naked." Participants can reclaim their clothes at the end of the race, and all clothing left behind after the race will be donated to the cause.

The Cambridge Property Group is donating an annual spirit award (trophy given to group and plaque displayed in the Student Recreation Center) for the student organization that creatively displays the most enthusiasm and support for the cause.

The top male and female finishers will receive $50 gift cards for the WIU Bookstore, as well as the second place in each division will receive a $25 credit at the UTech Computer Store. Other prizes will be given from drawings and include donations from Rocky's, Jackson Street Pub, the University Bookstore and U-Tech Computer Store.

There will also be a DJ, hot chocolate and glow bracelets available. Refreshment Services Pepsi will provide samples and sales of new products, including a new Gatorade protein bar, Kickstart and Rockstar. All sales proceeds from the event will benefit the Red Cross-Tornado Relief.

Registration will be in the Campus Recreation office Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Only the first 200 registered will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Early registration (ends Friday, Feb. 7) will be $10 per entry. On race day, the cost will be $20 per entry. This event is open to anyone.

Monetary donations will also be accepted and checks can be made payable to "Red Cross-Illinois Tornado Relief."

Century 21-Purdum-Epperson and individual agents: Marcia Hall, Steve Silberer, Marilyn Pruitt, Nancy Badord and Paula Knight will be the event sponsor. Additional sponsors include the University Bookstore, Quick Printers-Macomb, the Cambridge Property Group, Old Dairy, Blades, Cathy Early State Farm Insurance, Sports Corner, U-Tech Computer Store and No Place Like Home.
