MACOMB, IL -- As part of a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety (OPS) conducted increased traffic enforcement during the Thanksgiving holiday season, from Nov. 14 through Dec. 1.

During this period OPS conducted extra patrol and enforcement to enforce seat belt and impaired driving laws. According to OPS Sgt. Curt Bilbrey, during the enforcement period, OPS issued 22 citations, including the arrest of one subject for driving without a valid driver's license, the arrest of one minor for operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol (zero tolerance), eight seat belt citations, two citations for violations of the Child Protection Act (improper or no restraint of a child in a vehicle) and three speeding tickets.

OPS conducted part of the enforcement detail in conjunction with the Macomb Police Department. The targeted Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaigns will run through September 2014.
