MACOMB, IL – Springfield Southeast High School Senior Matthew Medley, of Springfield, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.

High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.

Medley said he will likely major in music education at Western.

"I selected Western for its excellent music program – a wide variety of educational programs, a beautiful campus and a committed, outreaching staff," Medley said.

At Western, Medley said he hopes to participate in band, symphony, tennis and one of WIU's numerous Study Abroad programs.

In high school, Medley participated in the Illinois Music Education Association, National Honor Society, Youth Symphony and taught piano and tuba.

After graduation from WIU, Medley plans to teach music.
