MACOMB, IL -- An evening of jazz, coupled with an exhibit of historic artwork and a social, is a perfect way to spend a Thursday and get a head start on the weekend. Join Western Illinois University Alumni Association and the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA for the WIU Alumni and Friends event, "A New Deal for Illinois - The Federal Art Project Collection of Western Illinois University" at the Figge Thursday, Oct. 10.

The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to view the exhibit any time during the social. A short program will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a curator tour hosted by Ann Marie Hayes-Hawkinson, director of University Art Gallery, and guest Curator Gregory Gilbert.

Western Illinois University's Federal Art Project Collection was formed in the 1930s when University officials commissioned works through the Public Works of Art Project, and later through the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration (FAP/WPA). These paintings and prints once decorated classrooms, hallways and other public spaces on campus.

The event, $15 per person, includes the social, exhibit viewing and appetizers. To register, visit wiu.com/alumni or call WIU Alumni Programs at (309) 298-1914.
