MACOMB, IL - The second annual Western Illinois University Piano Festival is coming to The WIU School of Music with guest artist Lori Sims on Saturday, Oct. 12 in the COFAC Recital Hall.

Sims will conduct a masterclass for auditioned high school and WIU piano students from noon-3 p.m. She will also perform a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. All events are open free to the public.

Sims received the gold medal at the 1998 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and also won the prize for the best performance of a work by Brahms. Sims has won many other awards including first prize co-winner of the 1994 Felix Bartholdy-Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, Germany. Sims was a student of the Yale School of Music and received the Dean's Prize for Most Outstanding Graduating Student, and a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst two-year fellowship from the Federal Republic of Germany.

Students interested in auditioning for the masterclass should submit a recording of a solo work they would like to play. These submissions should be turned in no later than Oct. 1. The WIU Piano Festival is funded by a grant from the Performing Arts Society, and support from the Visiting Lectures Committee and the Council of Student Activities Fund.
