MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University-Macomb campus will re-open at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, April 18) . The campus was closed earlier due to a widespread power outage. The campus will resume normal operations and classes will resume at 11 a.m.

A weather advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. due to flooded roadways in the region. A weather advisory allows employees the option to use accrued vacation time, compensatory time or approved leave without pay after notifying their supervisor. Employees identified as essential personnel must report to work.

According to University policy, if a University Advisory is issued due to the weather and students consider travel to campus unsafe, they should arrange with faculty to complete academic course requirements missed during the time of the advisory. Individual faculty members are responsible for their academic course requirements, and it is the individual faculty member's decision whether or not to grant a request to make up work that has been missed as a result of a University Advisory.

The WIU policy on limiting University operations because of emergency conditions is available in the Administrative Procedures Handbook, which can be viewed at wiu.edu/policies/emergency.php.

The power outage has affected heating plant operations. Some buildings, including residence halls, may be without hot water until later today. Employees are asked to report flooding issues in buildings to Facilities Management at 298-1834.
