Won Moo Hurh Services

MACOMB, IL -- Services for Won Moo Hurh, 80, Western Illinois University's first Distinguished Faculty Lecturer and retired sociology professor, are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb. A wake service will follow at 8 p.m. Hurh passed away April 12 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

In 1974, he was appointed as a sociology professor at Western Illinois University, where he taught for 29 years as one of America's leading scholars of Korean American immigration. In the course of his career, Huhr published 40 scholarly articles and five books. In 1999, he was chosen to be WIU's Distinguished Faculty Lecturer as part of the University's Centennial celebration.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria, three children; six grandchildren, and three sisters.
