MACOMB, IL – Sandy Huston, a staff nurse II at Beu Health Center, has been named the Western Illinois University Al & Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April.

Huston, who lives in rural Roseville, was hired at WIU in September 2007 in her current position.

According to Huston's nominator, she puts students first in her day-to-day activities.

"No student is put aside for other matters needing her time and attention," the nominator said. "She impacts the University in a positive way, in the area of international students in particular."

Huston deals extensively with immunization compliance at the University among international students and with the treatment and diagnosis of tuberculosis.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year awards. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque and a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) Public Relations Representative Wendi Mattson at WK-Mattson@wiu.edu.
