Gardener's Day set for March 16 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – The 18th annual University of Illinois Extension Gardener's Day in McDonough County will be held Saturday, March 16 at Western Illinois University.

The event runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the second floor of the University Union on West Murray Street.

The event will include four sessions of speakers, breakout sessions, lunch, vendor displays and door prizes. Speakers from around the regional will speak during a total of 12 sessions on topics including, "New Plants for 2013," "Xeriscape Design," "Perennial Garden Design" and "The Importance of Growing Local."

Speakers include WIU Agriculture Professor Marietta Loehrlein and WIU nursery worker Rebecca Fross, who will give a tour of the atrium at the Malpass Library as part of the event. Attendees can choose from one of three topics for each session.

Registration is $40 for the day and includes lunch. Registration can be made at the University of Illinois Extension office at 3022 W. Jackson St. in Macomb or downloaded at web.extension.illinois.edu/hkmw/mg/.

The event is sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension, McDonough County and the McDonough County Master Gardeners.
