Abbott Awarded Centennial Honors Scholarship to Western Illinois University

MACOMB, IL – Allen B. Shepard High School senior Zachary Abbott, of Alsip, has been selected for a Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at Western Illinois University.

High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship.

At WIU, Abbott plans to major in physics and hopes to participate in the University's marching band.

Abbott said he chose Western because of its affordability and size and because of the Centennial Honors Scholarship.

In high school, Abbott participated in marching band, concert and jazz bands, the German Club and the school newspaper.

After graduation from WIU, Abbott hopes to pursue a PhD in physics and eventually work for NASA in space exploration technology.
