MACOMB, IL -- The annual fundraiser for Western Illinois University Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge No. 169 is underway. Donations collected will help the WIU FOP to supply bike helmets to McDonough County elementary school students, as well as to provide support for a host of local organizations and events.

In 2012, the FOP distributed helmets to every first grader in McDonough County school districts. In addition, the WIU FOP assisted various McDonough County organizations including Special Olympics; Good Hope and Colchester Little Leagues; McDonough County Girls Softball; PRIME; Samaritan Well; Western Illinois Regional Council Project Santa; Macomb Kiwanis; St. Jude; and St. Baldrick's; and awarded book scholarships for McDonough County high school graduates attending Western. In addition, the WIU and Macomb Police FOPs are continuing to renovate Camp Chic-A-Gama at Spring Lake to serve area youth activities, and the WIU FOP sponsors a local Cub Scout pack. Since 1997, the WIU FOP has provided more than $120,000 to support area organizations.

"We greatly appreciate our supporters' generosity throughout the years. We are mailing our fundraising requests again this year, rather than interrupting the evenings of our generous contributors with phone calls," said Tom Moore, FOP No. 169 secretary/treasurer. "We know that people are often asked to pledge for many different organizations; we hope that the citizens of McDonough County will consider donating to our fund drive so we can continue to assist the many worthy organizations and young people in our region."

For further information contact the WIU FOP No. 169 at (309) 836-2267 or e-mail FOP169@wiu.edu. To make a donation, send a check, payable to WIU FOP No. 169, to P.O. Box 233, Macomb, IL 61455, or donations may be dropped off at the WIU Office of Public Safety (Mowbray Hall).
