MACOMB, IL – A Western Illinois University Homecoming Week philanthropy project to raise money for local charities has raised $1,300 for Macomb's Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

The annual student-focused Homecoming Week provides large and small organizations and residence halls' competitive student teams a variety of involvement opportunities that support diverse athletic, artistic and creative interests. It also provides opportunities for leadership development and personal growth through participation in and management of 10 annual events.

This annual fundraising component of the week allows participating campus organizations to receive bonus points while raising money for local charities.

The winning organization gets to designate where all of the collected money is donated.

This year the winning group was residents of Higgins Hall in the residence hall category.

The event raises more than $1,000 each year for varying area charities.
