Services Set for WIU Psychology Professor Emeritus Al Richert

MACOMB, IL -- Funeral services for Western Illinois University Psychology Professor Alphons J. Richert, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb. Richert, 67, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

He began his career at Western Illinois University in the Fall 1972 as an assistant professor of psychology. He was promoted to associate professor in 1979 and to professor in 1986. In addition to his teaching and research duties, Richert provided clinical services to student and community clients. He became director of the WIU Psychology Clinic and coordinator of the master's degree program in clinical/community mental health psychology in 1975. He retired from Western in 2007.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Western Illinois University Foundation for scholarship use in the Department of Psychology; to St. Paul Catholic Church of Macomb; or to the Nature Conservancy.
