MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University staff and faculty will take a walk and contribute to Macomb-based Samaritan Well from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Hanson Field track as part of the Western Walks-a-Thon.

Sponsored by WIU's Employee Wellness committee and Hy-Vee in Macomb, the Fall 2012 Western Walks-a-Thon will include healthy snacks (provided by Hy-Vee), prizes (awarded every hour) and is open to all WIU faculty and staff.

Donations will be collected for Samaritan Well, an agency that provides services for men, women and children who are homeless and in need of shelter.

"It's a great way for WIU's employees to demonstrate one of our University's core values, social responsibility," said Judy Yeast, chair of Employee Wellness.

According to Yeast, the goal of the Western Walks-a-Thon is to have one team member walk every hour. WIU employees can download the registration form from the Western Well website at www.wiu.edu/vpas/wellness/_documents/westernwalksreg.pdf or pick up the form at the Human Resources office (Sherman Hall 105) or at the Campus Recreation office (in the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center). T-shirt registration is due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. Completed forms can be delivered to either Human Resources or the Campus Recreation office in the Spencer Student Recreation Center.

If it rains, the walk will be moved from the Hanson Field track to the inside track in the Spencer Student Recreation Center.

For more information, contact Campus Recreation at (309) 298-1670 or Human Resources at (309) 298-1971.
