Intercollegiate Athletics Director Interviews

MACOMB, IL -- Three candidates for the director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Western Illinois University will be on campus for interviews Monday, July 8, Wednesday, July 10 and Thursday, July 11.

Candidates include China Jude, assistant vice president and athletics director, Queens (NY) College (July 8); Ken Ralph, director of athletics, Colorado College (July 10); and James (Tommy) Bell, director of intercollegiate athletics, recreation and intramurals, Indiana University-Purdue University, Ft. Wayne (July 11). Interview schedules and complete itineraries will available online at www.wiu.edu/employment.

An open meeting for faculty and staff will be held with each candidate in Western Hall's Hall of Fame Room [2:20-2:50 p.m., Jude and Ralph; 3:45-4:15 p.m., Bell]. An open session for community members will also be held (see itineraries for times and locations).

Jude has served as assistant vice president and athletics director at Queens College since August 2011. Previously, she was the athletics director and department chair for Cheyney University of Pennsylvania from October 2007 to July 2011. Jude has also served as assistant athletics director/senior women's administrator at the University of the District of Columbia; director of compliance; and as assistant athletics director/senior women's administrator at Coppin State University in Baltimore; and has served in various marketing and administrative roles for the Senior Bowl (Football) in Mobile, executive director of the Police Athletic League for the Seminole County (FL) Sheriff's Office, director of recreation for Waukegan City Parks and Recreation. Jude has coached volleyball at the collegiate level and has served as a faculty member at numerous universities.

Jude earned her master's degree from the United States Sports Academy and a bachelor's degree from Alabama State University. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D. at Northcentral University.

Ralph has served as director of athletics at Colorado College since 2007. Previously, he was the director of athletics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) from 2002-2007. Ralph has also served as senior assistant athletic director, head coach of swimming and water polo and aquatics director at Connecticut College. He has also served as aquatics director and swimming coach at University of Evansville, U.S. Air Force Academy, Kutztown University and Georgetown University.

Ralph earned his master's degree from California University (PA) and a bachelor's degree from University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Bell has served as director of intercollegiate athletics, recreation and intramurals, Indiana University-Purdue University since July 2007. Previously, he was the associate director for institutional advancement for the Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) Department of Athletics from October 2001-July 2007. Bell has also served in various administrative marketing and sales positions for AT&T Media in Dekalb and Brian Bemis Auto Group in Sycamore, and in such positions as assistant athletic director/annual fund director, major gifts officer, assistant athletic director/chapter development and travel coordinator at Northern Illinois University Department of Athletics. He has worked as an athletic trainer for St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford and for the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Club.

Bell earned his master's degree from Radford (VA) University and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech.

The director of Intercollegiate Athletics directs and supervises the administration of athletics and all administrative operations and business functions of the program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the institution, NCAA and the Summit League and Missouri Valley Football conferences.
