WESTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, dedicated to diversity and the fine arts, has designated an assistantship for a graduate violinist entering the two-year Master of Music program. The Graduate Assistant will perform will perform alongside faculty in the Julstrom String Quartet and in the University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.

The faculty quartet members are professors Julieta Mihai, violin, Istvan Szabo, viola, and Moíses Molina, cello. In addition, the student will perform duties as assigned by Dr. Richard Hughey, WIU Director of Orchestral Activites.

• Tuition waiver (in state): $4272/year
• Tuition waiver (out-of-state): $8544/year

2/3 Assistantship – 8 Month Contract

• $587/month stipend, total: $4696/ year

Application Requirements

1. Bachelors degree or equivalent.
2. Live audition (preferred) or a video of the candidate performing two contrasting works, including the first movement of a major concerto. DVD or video cassette is acceptable.
3. The completed School of Music application form. Form available at: Graduate Music Application Form.
4. Three letters of recommendation.
5. Official academic records sent directly from each school attended. If not in English, please provide a certified English translation.
6. International Students Only
   1. A completed international student application for admission form including a nonrefundable application fee of $30 (USD). Forms can be obtained at: International Application for Admission for more information
   2. Official TOEFL test scores sent directly from ETS. Must have obtained minimum acceptable TOEFL score of 550 (pbt), 213 (cbt), or 79-80 (ibt).
