MESSAGES OF WELCOME
Welcome to the celebration for the 1,000,000th volume in the Leslie F. Malpass Library.
This milestone is an extremely significant event for the Western Illinois University
community. Our libraries are the intellectual center for our campus, providing many
of the resources central to our university's mission. The 1,000,000th volume
represents all of the diverse materials available to each one of us at the University.
That special volume also reminds us to protect and cherish all libraries as well
as the materials found within them.

A million volumes used to be an epic achievement for a university library.
It still remains a level worthy of note and celebration. Today, our goals
tend to focus on meeting the information needs of our community, rather than
the numbers of volumes on our shelves. As part of our celebration, we're asking
the question "Will there be a two millionth volume?" How does the changing
nature of information delivery impact the library and its users? Does the
manner by which information is delivered have a factor on the reliability and
integrity of that information? These are the questions of the future, as we
celebrate the accomplishments of our past.
