Study Abroad to the Netherlands and Turkey

Join Drs. Barbara Ribbens, Associate Professor of Management, and Phyllis Self, Dean of Libraries, on a Study Abroad program to the Netherlands and Turkey from May 16 to May 30th. On campus classes are planned in April to develop a cultural awareness of the two countries as well as background lectures, reading assignments, and discussions on business models in the publishing industry. The course will include visits to a variety of publishing houses, booksellers, vendors, libraries and museums as well as some sightseeing. We will take advantage of the May Tulip Festival in the Netherlands and visit Islamic treasures at the Topkapi Palace, walk through the Grand Bazaar and enjoy a boat tour on the Bosporus. This course will give you insights into the role of information in society (especially in developing countries), the challenges of a changing industry (publishing) and an opportunity to explore Turkey, a major crossroads of cultures for centuries.

Credit can be award for either BAT 300 or BAT 600, Spring 2011 credit for 3 semester hours. If you are interested we will need you to express an interest immediately by December 31. Your first payment of $1000 will be due the first of February. The expected program cost is $3,000 - $4,000 based on an enrollment of 10 students.
