Black History Month Lecture and Recital

University Libraries and the School of Music celebrate Black History Month with a lecture and recital on operas by and/or about African Americans.

The lecture will be presented by Associate Professor and Music Librarian, Rod Sharpe. Professor Sharpe will be assisted by Western Illinois University students, Brittany Rodgers, Nicole Lanier, Michael Perkins and Johnnie Campbell. The event will feature the following works:

  • Koanga by Frederick Delius
  • Treemonisha by Scott Joplin
  • Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin
  • Troubled Island by William G. Still
  • Amistad by Anthony Davis

The recital will take place Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in room 101 Sallee Hall. It is free and open to anyone. The University Libraries would also like to encourage everyone to come to the Music Library in room 108 Sallee Hall to view the Black History Month music display that will be up through the end of February.
