Western Illinois Universities Libraries will present the lecture series, "Talking, Thinking, and Reading About Gardens," beginning September 27th. All discussions will be held on the third floor of the Leslie F. Malpass Library.

Irises

Learn about irises from someone who has more than 700 in his collection! As part of the ongoing Garden Lecture Series, the Western Illinois University Libraries will present a lecture by Professor Arnold Koekkoek on "The Joy of Irises" on April 3, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. on the third level of the Malpass Library on the WIU campus in Macomb. Professor Koekkoek taught history at Dordt College in his home of Sioux Center, Iowa for more than thirty years and has been "addicted" to growing irises for decades. He is a member of the American Iris Society and a veteran horticulturist who has attended numerous meetings and conventions about the flower. The public is invited to share in his infectious enthusiasm at this free event. Free parking will be available across the street from the library in WIU Lot 19. Growing Chestnuts for Fun and Profit

Chestnuts are not just a winter treat from abroad; they can grow in your garden right here as well! The Western Illinois University Libraries will present a lecture "Growing Chestnuts for Fun and Profit" by Dr. Thomas L. Green on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. on the third level of the Malpass Library at the WIU campus in Macomb. Dr. Green, a WIU alumnus who earned his Ph.D. at Iowa State University, is Professor of Urban Forestry in the WIU Agriculture Department and a nationally recognized instructor. The lecture will present practical advice on growing chestnuts based on Dr. Green's considerable research and experience. This event is free and open to the public with free parking available across the street from the library in WIU Lot 19.
