Information Systems & Digitization

Information Systems

Information Systems administers the Voyager integrated library management system and coordinates, develops and maintains WIU Libraries' web presence. We support library unit and branch operations, serving and assisting library personnel and the patrons who utilize library systems.

We take data and make it usable, both internally and externally as we create reports, facilitate online access to numerous bibliographic databases and information services (e.g., SFX, ContentDM), operate a Linux server, maintain a proxy server, develop customized database apps/systems, and design web user interfaces to enhance access to library collections and other electronic services.

Information Systems coordinates with Library Computer Services, University Technology, and the CARLI consortium, facilitating access to electronic resources and services in support of the Libraries' educational mission.

Digitization

Digitization specializes in the creation of digital objects, descriptive metadata and online collections. Efforts are geared towards Interlibrary Loan services, Reserves, online access, collection development and preservation.

We address the Libraries' mission to "support the education, research and information needs of the faculty, the university administration, staff, students, and the people of the region by making its rich collections and information services available anytime and anywhere" (see Annual Report, Strategic Plan). We are a regional leader in the creation of digital collections and collaborating with rural communities to create on-demand objects for public access.
