following:

  1. completion of four years of high school foreign language study (in the same
    language);
  2. scoring above the beginning level on the departmental placement test;
  3. completion of the College Entrance Board Advanced Placement Examination (CEEB);
  4. completion of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

Students who begin at the 200-level may qualify, upon application (and normally on completion of a placement test), for intermediate placement credit (equivalent to 122) by completing either 223 or 224 with a grade of C or better.
