Spring 2014 New International Student Orientation

***WIU WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL 12:00 PM ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 7TH. ****

THERE WILL BE NO CHECK-IN IN THE UNIVERSITY UNION.

CHECK-IN WILL BEGIN AT 1:00 PM IN MEMORIAL HALL 341 ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 7TH.

AT 12:45, WE WILL BEGIN TO PICK UP STUDENTS AT AMERICA'S BEST VALUE INN, TURNBERRY, CAMPUS MANOR, CAMPUS FOR CHRIST. IF YOU NEED A RIDE FROM A DIFFERENT LOCATION, PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL DANA (DM-VIZDAL@WIU.EDU).

We are very excited that you have chosen Western Illinois University!  Here is some important information about the orientation:

  *Free pick-up - Sunday, January 5 - Tuesday, January 7

IF YOUR TRAVEL PLANS HAVE CHANGED DUE TO THE WEATHER, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT DM-VIZDAL@WIU.EDU.

*While many of the activities during the orientation are voluntary, some are mandatory – meaning you must attend! All new students MUST ATTEND the orientation activities that appear in bold print and underlined .  If an activity is not in bold print and underlined, attendance is optional but highly recommended.

*There are two main people who will work with you during orientation. They are Dana Vizdal and Arezou Hosseini.                           Dana and Arezou will help you organize your meals and shopping for the first few days you are in Macomb. You are welcome to email them before you arrive if you have questions.

*The first orientation activity everyone needs to attend is one of the "Check-In" sessions. There are many different Check-Ins scheduled. Once you complete your all check-in tasks, you DO NOT need to attend any other Check-ins.

*Transportation is available to many of the orientation activities, but not all. For each activity in this schedule, there is either a location or pick-up location given. If the description says "Go to..." that means there is no transportation and you must go to that location on your own. If it says "Pickup will be at..." it means that vans will pick you up at those locations to take you to the activity. Please be on time.

*Temporary housing will be at Olson Hall. The fee is $17 plus tax per night if you are on the early arrival list.  If you are not, it will be $40 per night.  Another option is to stay at the America's Best Value Inn ($40 per night).

Move in to the dorm will begin on Sunday, January 12th at 10:00 a.m.  Please contact Dana if you need help moving into your permanent housing assignment.

*Orientation week is the only time that Center for International Studies staff will be able to help you with airport pickups, shopping and bank trips, and moving. Please make sure to make arrangements for all these activities during the orientation week.
