Fall New International Student Orientation 2014

Dana

We are very excited that you have chosen Western Illinois University!  Below is important information about the orientation, please read if carefully.  If you have any questions or your travel plans have changed, please contact me at dm-vizdal@wiu.edu

I look forward to meeting you!

- Dana Vizdal

Orientation Information:

*Free pick-up period: Saturday, August 16 -Tuesday, August 19

*While many of the activities during the orientation are voluntary, some are mandatory – meaning you must attend! All new students MUST ATTEND the orientation activities that appear in bold print and underlined. If an activity is not in bold print and underlined, attendance is optional but highly recommended.

*There are two main people who will work with you during orientation. They are Dana Vizdal and Arezou Hosseini.

Dana and Arezou will help you organize your meals and shopping for the first few days you are in Macomb. You are welcome to email them before you arrive if you have questions.

*The first orientation activity everyone needs to attend is one of the "Check-In" sessions. There are many different Check-Ins scheduled. Once you complete your all check-in tasks, you DO NOT need to attend any other Check-ins.

*Transportation is available to many of the orientation activities, but not all. For each activity in this schedule, there is either a location or pick-up location given. If the description says "Go to..." that means there is no transportation and you must go to that location on your own. If it says "Pickup will be at..." it means that vans will pick you up at those locations to take you to the activity.

*Temporary housing will be at Olson Hall. The fee is $21 plus tax per night if you are on the early arrival list.  If you are not, it will be $40 per night if room is available.  Another option is to stay at the America's Best Value Inn (approximately $65 per night).

*If you are in temporary housing and need help moving into your permanent home at any time during the week, please call Dana to set up a move out time.

*Orientation week is the only time that Center for International Studies staff will be able to help you with airport pickups, shopping and bank trips, and moving. Please make sure to make arrangements for all these activities during the orientation week.
