Graduate Assistants Receive 2.5% Increase in Stipend Effective August 1, 2012
The School of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce that the full-time graduate/research/teaching support assistant stipend has increased by approximately 2.5% from the base salary of $7,360 to $7,544 per academic year. For teaching assistants, the base salary has increased from $8,480 to $8,688 per academic year. Thus, the new monthly stipend for full-time graduate, research, and teaching support assistants is $943 and a two-thirds position is $629. The new minimum monthly stipend for a teaching assistant is $1,086 and a two-thirds position is $724. Assistantship contracts have been updated to reflect the increase effective August 1, proportionate to individual awards.
All appropriated graduate assistant budget lines have been adjusted to cover the increase. Updated contracts will not be issued, however, students may view payroll information via the online STARS system. An email will be sent to graduate assistants informing them of this increase. They should expect to receive this pay on their first fall paycheck (October 1 for those who start on August 20).
Please share this information with appropriate individuals in your area. Feel free to contact the Graduate School at 298-1806 or Grad-Office@wiu.edu if you have any questions concerning assistantships.
