Admission Requirements

Select your level of study:

New College Freshman: Students who have not taken college classes after completing high school apply for an undergraduate degree.

Transfer Students: Students who have taken college classes after high school but have not earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree apply for an undergraduate degree. Learn about earning undergraduate transfer credits.

Graduate Students: Students who have earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree apply for a graduate or second bachelor's degree.

English Language Training (WESL): Students applying for the intensive English language program. (We are not currently accepting applications for WESL at this time.) 

Online-only Students: Accepted students who would like to register for online-only courses to complete from their home countries must first work with their WIU advisor to determine if appropriate online courses are available. Refer to FAQs for details.

Apply for FREE July 27 through December 31, 2020!*

*If you have previously submitted an application before July 27, 2020, please do not submit another one. An Admissions Officer will be in contact with you regarding your next steps.

To Apply for Fall (August)

  • April 1: Application due 
  • April 15: Application materials due (Transcripts, test scores, all other requested documents)
  • July 1: Financial documents due

For Spring (January)

  • October 1: Application due 
  • October 15: Application materials due (Transcripts, test scores, all other requested documents)
  • November 15: Financial documents due

For Summer (June)

  • January 15: Application due 
  • March 1: Application materials due (Transcripts, test scores, all other requested documents)
  • May 1: Financial documents due
  • PLEASE NOTE: Graduate students should apply for fall or spring intake.

    Many WIU summer courses are online. If students wish to enroll for summer as their first semester, they must take online summer courses from home.  If you wish to do so, please indicate this in the comments section of the application.

    Graduate student applications for summer intake will be deferred to fall intake unless otherwise noted.
