Projects

In recent years, Outreach Programs has hosted major national and international events showcasing Western Illinois University, including the 41st International Horn Symposium and the annual conference of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. Outreach Programs works on an on-going basis with Western Illinois University’s academic departments to provide conferences on timely topics for a wide variety of professionals.  In addition, it offers its own conferences in various locations across the state, including Peoria, the Quad Cities, and the Chicago area.

Outreach is a priority to us and we will work with departments to determine a plan to reach departmental goals and outcomes. In doing so, we will support departments through providing registration services, advertising, financial services, project oversight, and coordination of technology, room space, and catering. This allows departments to focus on content for their conferences, leaving the logistical, financial, and contractual processes up to Outreach Programs to navigate. Departments who are interested in speaking with us regarding our services can designate how much involvement they would like in the project building process. Based upon the needs of a project and the amount of involvement a department wishes for us to have can be decided upon at the beginning of the project.

In addition, at various times in the past, Outreach Programs has provided major retraining programs for employees of business and industry in west central Illinois, including Caterpillar and International Harvester. Non-Credit Programs also partnered extensively with the Illinois State Board of Education and the Job Training Partnership Act to provide academic enrichment and work experience programs for economically-disadvantaged youth who were at-risk for dropping out of school.
