Black Male Mentoring Program

To offer the premier mentoring programming for students of color in Illinois

To enhance both personal and professional growth of black male students at WIU by providing mentors and programming designed to build academic skills, foster leadership development, enrich students socially and promote career exploration and preparation.

Mentees are assigned a faculty/staff member as their committed Mentor for their first academic year. Mentors are members of WIU community and assist mentees in acquiring the knowledge and skills to be effective students. Contact Dr. Sterling J. Saddler, Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion, if you are interested in becoming a Mentor - s-saddler2@wiu.edu.

Mentees will engage in monthly meetings from August-April where they have the opportunity to learn from the academic and professional journey of WIU community mentors. Mentees will also receive special invitations to campus-wide events such as a Mentoring Breakfast and mini- conference held on campus at the end of the academic year.
