President Thomas: FY19 Budget
Dear University Community,
I am pleased to share the news that the General Assembly passed a state budget bill that provides appropriated funding to Illinois higher education institutions. On Monday, Governor Rauner signed the bill into law. Western's allocation of the higher education state appropriation is $47.2 million for fiscal year 2019, an increase of 2 percent from FY18.
Parsons Retirement Reception
A retirement reception for Nancy Parsons, associate provost for undergraduate and graduate studies at Western Illinois University, will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, June 22 in the University Union Lincoln Room. Parsons will retire June 30 after 30 years of service.
Introducing Col. Rock IV ("Ray")
There's a new dog in town and he's bone-a-fide.
Col. Rock IV -- aka Ray, after Western Illinois University's legendary longtime coach and athletic director Ray "Rock" Hanson -- arrived in Macomb late Thursday night from the Siess Ranch in Kansas, where his "cousin" Col. Rock III was born eight years ago.
Spring 2018 WIU Commencement Address: "The Time is Always Right to Do What is Right" by Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas

BOT Approves FY19 Spending Plan
The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved the institution's FY19 preliminary spending plan at its meeting June 8 at the WIU-QC campus.
"Eat Mor Chikin" .... Chick-fil-A Coming to WIU-Macomb Campus Fall 2018
A continued investment in Western Illinois University from Sodexo is bringing a popular restaurant to the Macomb campus in mid-Fall 2018.
On May 1, WIU President Jack Thomas approved promotions of several tenured faculty members from the rank of associate professor to professor, effective Fall 2018.
Board Grants Tenure
Twenty-six Western Illinois University faculty members were granted tenure by the WIU Board of Trustees at the Board's June 8 meeting.
Slater Named Interim CIO
Rebecca Slater, director of University Technology-User Support Services at Western Illinois University, has been named interim Chief Information Officer (CIO)/executive director of University Technology at WIU, effective July 1, according to Interim Provost and Academic Vice President Kathy Neumann. Slater replaces Stephen Frazier who will retire June 30.
BOT Approves Collective Bargaining Agreement
The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved the collective bargaining agreement for the WIU Chapter of University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) Local 4100 at a June 1 meeting at the WIU-Quad Cities campus.
Buwick Named Counseling Center Director
Amy Buwick, clinical supervisor of the Western Illinois University Counseling Center (UCC) has been named UCC director. Buwick replaced Jim DiTulio, who retired after 29 years of service.
Polley Named Interim Vice President for Administrative Services
William Polley, interim associate dean of the Western Illinois University College of Business and Technology, has been named interim vice president for administrative services. Polley, who replaced Matt Bierman, will serve in the interim role through Dec. 31. A national search will be held.
Woods Named Interim Director of Admissions
Jason Woods, associate vice president for student services at Western Illinois University, has been named interim director of the WIU Office of Admissions, effective July 1. Admissions Director Seth Miner has accepted a position at New Mexico State University.
Riebling, James Named Advisors of the Month for March, April
Andrea Riebling, an academic advisor in the College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University, has been named the Advisor of the Month for March. Anna James, also an academic advisor in the College of Business and Technology, has been named the Advisor of the Month for April.
WIU Professor Emeritus Named to SURS Board of Trustees
Western Illinois University Professor Emeritus Steven M. Rock has been chosen to serve a six-year term on the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) Board of Trustees. Rock's term begins July 15.
Daytner Named Dean of WIU College of Education and Human Services
Katrina Daytner, associate dean of the Western Illinois University College of Education and Human Services (COEHS), has been named interim dean of the college, effective July 1, according to WIU Interim Provost Kathleen Neumann.
School of Agriculture Partnership Enhances High School, Community College Ag Classes
The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture has partnered with the Illinois Corn Marketing Board to develop a program that benefits high school agriculture classes across Illinois.
Summer Film Series - The Dead Filmmakers Society 2018
The summer film favorite, "The Dead Filmmakers Society," returns this year with showings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday nights in Western Illinois University's Sandburg Theater in the University Union.
