President's Town Hall Meeting Feb. 19

Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas will host a town hall meeting for WIU faculty and staff from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 in the University Union Grand Ballroom. The Feb. 19 town hall will focus on the positive events taking place at Western, and how we can work together to further promote the University and tell the Western story.

WIU: Military Friendly School for Nine Consecutive Years

Western Illinois University's long tradition of honoring and serving veterans and active members of the armed forces can be traced back to the school's early beginnings. Because of Western's ongoing support of veterans and active service personnel, the University has once again been recognized as a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs Magazine (Victory Media).

Bubb Named Executive Director of Development

Paul Bubb, associate athletic director for development, Cal Poly Pomona, has been named the executive director of development at Western Illinois University.

Office of General Counsel Changes

Digger Oster, assistant vice president for administrative services and risk manager at Western Illinois University, has assumed the duties of the institution's ethics officer until a new University attorney is in place.

Western Illinois University will host the 45th annual International Bazaar from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, March 3 in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

Macomb Feminist Network Honors Four WIU Emerita Faculty

The Macomb Feminist Network has selected Sally Egler, Martha Klems, Maurine Magliocco and Paula Wise to receive its 2018 Writing Women into History Award.


Peace Corps Plans Celebrations

Join Peace Corps Programs at WIU as we celebrate the establishment of Peace Corps and the great work completed by volunteers since 1961 with Peace Corps Week. We will host a full week of events Feb. 25 - March 3. Events include a YouTube Film Screening, Feb. 27 from 5-6 p.m., Speed Info Sessions Feb. 28 5-5:30, 6-6:30 p.m., and Empowerment Yoga Mar. 1, 7-8 p.m.

URC Announces Grant Competition Deadline

The University Research Council (URC) has announced the deadline for the FY2019 Internal Grants Competition is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3. This competition is for projects that will be conducted from July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019.

URC support is intended to promote research, or its scholarly equivalent, in appropriate fields by providing seed money for the initiation of new, one-year projects. Priority will be given to those proposals that are likely to result in external funding and publication in peer-refereed journals, or exhibitions and performances.

Eligible applicants include tenured or tenure-track faculty members who are not members of the URC at the time of application. An individual may not be an applicant or co-applicant on more than one proposal per funding cycle.

Proposed projects may not be for dissertation research or used in any way to fulfill degree requirements. In addition, projects cannot be considered for textbook writing, curriculum development, or personal development.

Application materials are available on the OSP website.

OSP will conduct 2 technical assistance workshops for those interested in applying to the FY 2019 competition. The workshops will be held on March 2, 2018 and March 19, 2018 from 3-4 p.m. in the Library - room 180. Please register with CITR at at or call OSP at 298-1191.
