Reed Named November Employee of the Month
Western Illinois University Assistant Superintendent of Grounds in Landscape Maintenance Eric Reed has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.
Universitywide Kinder Mondays
Making the world a more kind place one Monday at a time. Kinder Mondays, which started as a program created by two counselors from the Western Illinois University Counseling Center in Fall 2016, is now a Universitywide program that aims to bring a little more kindness into people's lives.
Holiday Arrangements by WIU Faculty Member to be Performed Across the Country
Western Illinois University Associate Professor of Music John Mindeman will have several of his holiday arrangements performed throughout the country this year.
Clow Named Interim Provost
Billy Clow, dean of Western Illinois University's College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC), has been named interim provost, effective Jan. 1, 2019. Clow replaces Kathy Neumann, who will step down and will work on special projects. Neumann has served as interim provost since May 2015. A national search is underway.
WIU Food Pantry Announces Expanded Hours
The Western Illinois University Food Pantry has announced expanded hours for students, faculty and staff to access free, non-perishable food items. The pantry will now be open from noon-5 p.m. Thursdays and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
Women in Politics Roundtable at WIU-QC
Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will host a free roundtable discussion for women and girls interested the topic of "Women in Politics" on Monday, Nov. 26 as part of its Ready to Run program.
Chick-fil-A Opening Delayed
Due to technology-related issues during the renovation and implementation of the Chick-fil-A Express in the Western Illinois University Union, the grand opening of the restaurant will be delayed.
Gary W. Myers Obituary
Funeral services for retired Western Illinois University electrician Gary W. Myers, of Avon, Il, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19 at the Avon United Methodist Church.

Summer Stipend Award Recipients
The Western Illinois University Foundation and the Office of Sponsored Projects are awarding nine summer stipends for nearly $30,000 for the Summer of 2019. These grants provide opportunities for faculty to engage in projects leading to the professional advancement of the proposal writer and the enhancement of Western Illinois University in the areas of teaching, research and creative activity. While teaching, research and creative activities are expected of every faculty member,
the summer stipend is intended to allow faculty to pursue projects well beyond those that can normally be pursued during the academic year. Proposals are encouraged in research leading to publication, development of a significant curriculum proposal, creation of work leading to a performance or exhibition, mastery of a new instructional technique and research required in preparing an application to an external granting agency.
