Unique Pumpkin Varieties on Display at Malpass Library
A Malpass Library employee has turned a personal hobby into a unique learning experience for Western Illinois University students this fall.
Inaugural Super Hero Blue Light Fun Run/Walk at WIU Oct. 20
To raise awareness and funds for sexual assault and domestic violence prevention, the Western Illinois University Student Government Association (SGA) has created a run/walk that highlights one of many WIU safety resources.
Annual WIU Marching Band Classic is Oct. 20
The 37th annual Western Illinois University Marching Band Classic, for high school bands, will be held beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 on WIU's Hanson Field.
Delta Upsilon Offering Haunted House and Trail Oct. 19-20
Delta Upsilon will host its 4th annual haunted house and trail from 7-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Oct. 19-20.
Horn Field to Host Haunted Trail Oct. 28
Western Illinois University's Horn Field Campus will host its annual Haunted Trail Sunday, Oct. 28 at Horn Field Campus in Macomb. The event will be open from 6-7 p.m. for families and again from 8-10 p.m. in a "scary" form.
WIU Residence Halls Offering Safe Trick-or-Treating, Haunted Housing
University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) at Western Illinois University will once again sponsor its annual Residence Halls Safe Trick-or-Treat program from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in conjunction with one of the Macomb community evenings.
WIU Marketing Club Hosting "Push 4 Parks" Oct. 26
The Western Illinois University Marketing Club will host a Push 4 Parks bags tournament from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 on the campus quad behind Stipes Hall.
Social Entrepreneurship Salon to Focus on Repurposing Buildings in the Quad Cities
Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will present "Repurposing Buildings: Renew Moline and Reader Area Development" at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 on the WIU-QC campus, 3300 River Drive.
Pohlpeter Named September Advisor of the Month at WIU
Kate Pohlpeter, an academic advisor in the WIU Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, has been named the Advisor of the Month for September.
WIU-QC Psych Club to Present "The Psychology of Creepiness and Horror"
Western Illinois University-Quad Cities' Psychology Club will host "Creeped Out," with special guest Frank McAndrew, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the University's Riverfront Hall, room 111. The event is free and open to the public.
Universitywide Kinder Mondays Program Continues
Kinder Mondays, which started as a program created by two counselors from the Western Illinois University Counseling Center in Fall 2016, is now a Universitywide program that aims to bring a little more kindness into people's lives.
WIU Unveils Promise Plus Program
Western Illinois University has unveiled the Western Promise Plus as part of the new "AIM HIGH" funding program created by the state of Illinois. Western's Promise Plus is designed to significantly reduce or offset tuition and fees, PLUS other costs – room, meal plan, books and course materials – for new freshmen enrolling in Fall 2019.
Crouch Exhibit at University Art Gallery through Nov. 16
An exhibit by Western Illinois University Professor Emeritus Don Crouch, called "Art Since Retirement," will be on view at the Western Illinois University Art Gallery through Nov. 16. There will be an exhibition reception for the artist Saturday, Oct. 20, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the art gallery.
Funeral services for retired Western Illinois University Building Service Worker Clyde Rittenhouse were held Oct. 15 at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb.
A memorial service for retired Building Service Worker Supervisor Arthur R. Thorpe will be held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 20 at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Macomb. A visitation at the church will precede the service.
WIU Mourns Death of WIU-QC Employee
Emily I. (Pitz) Jackson, 42, an office support specialist in the Office of Academic Affairs at the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities campus, passed away Oct. 4. Services were held Oct. 7.
WIU Educational Studies Chair Named President of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society
Western Illinois University Educational Studies Chair Eric Sheffield was recently elected president of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society (OVPES) for 2019.

Lights up in London!
As part of the new Community Expeditions offerings from the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach, community members are invited to be among the first to join WIU President Emeritus Al Goldfarb and Kim McDaniel, Study Abroad and Outreach, on the inaugural London Community Theatre trip, March 9-17, 2019.
The trip will include tickets to productions, a bus tour of London and at least one visit outside the city. There will also be free time to explore and visit famous landmarks and museums.
