Welcome Back, WIU: A New Year, A New Beginning

Dear University Community, As we begin a new calendar year and academic semester, I am resolved in my optimism about the future of Western Illinois University. I want to express my gratitude to the faculty, staff, students and friends who support our University. We appreciate your optimism and all that you do to make Western great. Former Secretary of State and U.S. Army Gen. (ret.) Colin Powell once said, "Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier."

WIU Earns U.S.News & World Report Best Online Program Ranking

Western Illinois University has again been recognized by the U.S. News & World Report for offering some of the best online degree programs. Western is ranked 60th out of 347 ranked colleges and universities from across the U.S. in "Best Online Programs: Bachelor's" category and is one of two Illinois public universities in the top 75.

Elliott Selected to Lead New Era in Leatherneck Football

It was an exciting Thursday (Jan. 4) for the Western Illinois University Athletic Department. In a morning press conference, Director of Athletics Matt Tanney welcomed Jared Elliott to the podium as the program's 34th head coach in its 115-year history.

Broadcasting Faculty, Alumnus Named National Award Finalists

Western Illinois University Broadcasting and Journalism instructor Jasmine Crighton and 2017 Broadcasting alumnus Danny Frey were recently named as finalists for the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System's Management and Operations Awards competition.

Myers Named Chair of WIU Department of Art

Western Illinois University Art Professor Kat Myers has been named Chair of the University's art department, effective Jan. 1.

Griffin Named Director of Facilities Management

Kenneth Griffin, consultant and principal manager and engineer, Reynolds Engineering, has been named director of Facilities Management at Western Illinois University, effective Jan. 22.

GBBC to Host Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Jan. 25

The Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center at Western Illinois University will present its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 in the Horrabin Hall theater.

Pestle Retirement Reception Jan. 31

A retirement reception to honor the nearly 35 years of service of Western Illinois University School of Agriculture office manager Donna Pestle will be held from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 in Knoblauch Hall, room 239.

Regional Radio Station WCAZ in Carthage Donates Collection to WIU

From first to last broadcast, spanning 1922-2017, WCAZ Radio, Carthage (AM 990), has made an initial donation of its archived materials to the Western Illinois University Archives and Special Collections.

Mediation/Negotiations Update, January 2018

The University is continuing its discussions with the Union, led by a federal mediator, and we remain dedicated to the mediation process. Two mediation sessions have been held to date in the new year (Jan. 8 and Jan. 17), with additional sessions scheduled for Jan. 31, Feb. 15 and Feb. 28.

The University is continuing its commitment to engage in good faith negotiations. We will work diligently and with professionalism to ensure a mutually beneficial resolution.
