WIU President Calls for Increased Investment in Public Higher Education
After a budget impasse that persisted over two years, the state of Illinois passed a Fiscal Year 2018 budget on July 6, 2017. Prior to this most recent budget, significantly decreased state appropriated dollars were allocated to Illinois public higher education institutions for two consecutive years. This lack of adequate funding resulted in a ripple effect that continues to impact our regional public institutions.

Partnership Brings Big Band Music to Macomb
A unique collaboration that encompasses a local veterans' organization and talented musicians from the Macomb and Western Illinois University communities is bringing Big Band music to Macomb each month.
As you know, after a year of formal negotiations, we have progressed to mediation with the expectation of facilitating a mutual agreement. The University is committed to mediation, and we have met twice thus far with the federal mediator and members of the UPI negotiating team. We have additional mediation sessions scheduled for Nov. 27, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18.
We are concerned that misinformation continues to be shared. This misinformation is unsettling to our University community and can undermine any progress that both parties are striving to achieve. This continued rhetoric risks harm to the institution's reputation, which in turn can have a detrimental effect on enrollment and recruitment initiatives.
Through our continued efforts, we look forward to a positive resolution.
