President's Executive Institute and Strategic Plan Supplement Initiatives
Western Illinois University will be the partner of choice for addressing the needs of the region and will continue to chart a course for a strong future, providing outstanding educational opportunities to the citizens of the state and beyond. This was the message shared June 14 at two public events, which were set to outline the institution's future goals and priorities, at the University's Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.
Gordon W. Kirk Associated Students of History (ASH) Endowment Fund
Transformational learning experiences happen throughout a Western Illinois University student's experience both in and out of the classroom, and thanks to the generosity of a retired WIU Department of History chair, faculty member and administrator, those experiences will soon be expanded.
Second Round of Downtown Sculptures in Place as Part of WIU/Macomb Partnership
The second edition of a large-scale public art project in and around downtown Macomb is now in place. In June 2016, 10 sculptures were placed downtown as part of a partnership between the city and Western Illinois University.
Educational Programming for Growing Hops Presented in Macomb, Lewistown
The Illinois Cooperative Development Center in the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University is partnering with the University of Illinois Extension program and Hallowed Hops Farm to present educational programming about growing hops as an alternative crop both commercially and on a small scale.
Tang Awarded Scripps Howard Visiting Professor Grant
Western Illinois University Broadcasting and Journalism Associate Professor Yong Tang is one of six visiting professors awarded the opportunity to learn first-hand how technology is transforming the delivery of news and information.
McNabb Named Chair of WIU Department of History
Western Illinois University Professor Jennifer McNabb has been named chair of the WIU Department of History, according to College of Arts and Sciences Dean Susan Martinelli-Fernandez.
Bailey Retirement Reception Set for June 28
A retirement reception honoring William C. Bailey, interim dean of the Western Illinois University College of Business and Technology (CBT), will be held from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 in the University Union Lamoine Room.
Belles Celebration of Life July 15
To celebrate his life (and his love for ice cream), an ice cream social will be held to celebrate Gill Belles, professor emeritus of Western Illinois University's recreation, park and administration (RPTA) department, on July 15 in the WIU College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall (Simpkins Hall).
Summer Film Series - The Dead Filmmakers Society 2017
The summer film favorite, "The Dead Filmmakers Society," returns this year with showings scheduled on Wednesday nights in Western Illinois University's Sandburg Theater, in the University Union. All films begin at 5:30 p.m., and all showings are open free to the public.
BOT Approves FY18 Spending Plan, Auxiliary Facilities Systems Funds Resolution
The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved the institution's FY18 preliminary spending plan and a resolution to utilize Auxiliary Facilities Systems (AFS) funds, if necessary, at its meeting today (June 9) at the WIU-QC campus.

Ten Western Illinois University faculty members were granted tenure by the WIU Board of Trustees at the Board's June 9 meeting.
