WIU Commencement Weekend May 13-14

Ceremonies recognizing the academic and personal accomplishments of Western Illinois University students and alumni will be held Friday-Saturday, May 13-14 in Macomb and Sunday, May 15 in the Quad Cities during Western Illinois' 2016 Spring Commencement Weekend.


Veterans Literary Magazine Celebrates New Issue

A reading reception to commemorate the second issue of a publication written and edited by Western Illinois University veterans, service members and alumni will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 at the University Art Gallery.

"SITREP: Veteran Perspectives on Combat and Peace" is a collaborative project between the WIU Department of English and the WIU Veterans Resource Center. More than 20 submissions make up this publication, ranging from fiction and non-fiction to poetry.


WIU Offering Classes for Regional High School Students

High school seniors from west-central Illinois can put their college career on the fast track beginning this fall through a special program offered at Western Illinois University.

Students from Macomb, West Prairie, Bushnell, Hamilton, Illini West, West Central, United, VIT, Knoxville, Cuba, Lewistown, Astoria, Rushville and Abingdon-Avon high schools who are entering their senior year can now apply for admission at WIU and take classes at Western prior to completing high school, according to Andy Borst, director of undergraduate admissions.



Memorial Tree Ceremony Scheduled for Today

Western Illinois University-Macomb employees who passed away between March 2015 and March 2016 will be remembered at 11 a.m. today (Friday, May 6,) during a brief ceremony at the Memorial Tree Grove, located on the southeast section of campus by University Village, near the West Pierce Street entrance. The ceremony is open to the public.

Robert R. Bahr, chemistry; Joseph L. Cassidy, heating plant; Laura Cripe, English dept.; Sherry J. LaVingon, University Housing and Dining-Residence Life; William R. Rehling, law enforcement and justice administration; and Bart Shanklin, music will be remembered.


Juried Student Exhibition Opens at Art Gallery

The 2016 Annual Juried Student Exhibition opened Saturday, April 23 on the second floor of the University Art Gallery.

WIU students, of various majors, submitted original work in a variety of mediums to be considered for the exhibit. Of the 76 submissions, 32 pieces were selected by juror Frank Trankina, professor of art at Northern Illinois University and a prolific artist.

The Purchase Award, contributed by WIU emeriti faculty members Bill and Jo Sanders, and several other prizes will be granted.


Vice President for Student Services Employees of the Month and Act of Kindness Award Recipients

Administrative Employee of the Month: Tracy Scott, Student Development Office; Civil Service Employee of the Month: Carrie Peters, Career Development Center; Graduate Assistant of the Month:Stephanie Russell, Admissions Office; and Student Employee of the Month: Jeff Marta, Athletics.

Act of Kindness Award Recipients: Jim DiTulio, Danielle Flack, Jacquelyn Heidegger, Stephanie Hovsepian, Steve Kopitzke, David Raymond and Just Schuch.
