WIU and Staff Make Use of 3-D Printer
This summer, WIU purchased a 3-D printer to offer faculty and staff an opportunity to print 3-D plastic models in place of a two dimensional image on paper.
WIU's Purple and Gold Popcorn Wins State Agri-Tourism Award
The Organic Research Program recently received a 2013 Salute to Illinois Agriculture Agri-Tourism Leaders of the Year Award for its innovative direct marketing of purple and gold popcorn.
U.S.News Again Ranks WIU a 'Best Midwestern University'
For the ninth consecutive year, WIU has been ranked among the best regional universities in U.S.News and World Report's annual College Rankings 2014 edition.
WIU: 2014 Military Friendly School
For the fifth consecutive year, WIU has been named a "Military Friendly School" and will again be featured in the "G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools," among other Victory Media publications.
President's Town Hall Meetings
Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas will host town hall meetings in September and October to give WIU students, faculty and staff the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback regarding University operations, programs and more.
Thomas will open each meeting with an update on the many initiatives currently underway, and the challenges facing Western. He will then open the floor for open dialogue and questions.
Sanford to Present Lecture Sept. 19
A. Whitney Sanford, associate professor of religion at the University of Florida, will present the 27th annual Mary Olive Woods Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 in the Grand Ballroom of the University Union. Her lecture is titled, "Bread Labor: Food, Freedom and the Mainstreaming of Sustainability."
Founders' Day Sept. 23
Faculty, staff and community members are invited to celebrate "The History of Western Illinois University" at the 20th annual Founders' Day Celebration Monday, Sept. 23 in University Union Grand Ballroom on the Macomb campus, and at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the Goldfarb Atrium at the WIU-QC Riverfront Campus.
Big Pink Volleyball Sept. 23-26
WIU's annual Big Pink Volleyball (BPV) breast cancer awareness fundraiser tournament is set to take place Monday-Thursday, Sept. 23-26 on the WIU-Macomb campus.
Difficult Conversations Sept. 25
Difficult Conversations, "When Social Network Gets Nasty: Destructive Communication on Social Network Sites" will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. at the WIU Multicultural Center.
Celebration Concert Sept. 28
Tri States Public Radio's Celebration Concert Series opening concert will feature the singer-songwriter Sally Barris on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Performance Studio on the Macomb campus.
Flu Shot Clinic Offered Oct. 2
A flu shot clinic will be held in the University Union Heritage Room on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The clinic is available to all WIU employees or retirees and other state agency employees. Dependents and spouses are not eligible. Please have a WIU ID card and state health ID card available when coming to the clinic.
Rocky on Parade Unveiling Oct. 3
Inspired by successful projects like Cows on Parade in Chicago, WIU Art Professor Bill Howard conceived the idea for Rocky On Parade. On Oct. 3, at the annual WIU Alumni Association's Town and Gown Celebration, the 14 Rocky sculptures will be debuted.
WIU Homecoming Events Oct. 3-12
Alumni and friends will descend on the WIU campus, joining current students, Oct. 3-12 to celebrate Homecoming 2013: "The Rocky Games: Western Is United."
Fallen Soldiers 5k Run/Walk Nov. 2
The event is designed as a fundraiser for the Fallen Soldier's Scholarship Fund.

Summer Stipend Opportunities
The Western Illinois University Foundation and the Office of Sponsored Projects will award up to ten summer stipends in the amount of $3,000 each for Summer 2014.
COFAC Faculty Honored With Teaching Awards
The College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) presented the COFAC Faculty Awards at a recent welcome back reception for the College.
Career and Internship Fair Oct. 1
Faculty and staff are asked share information with their students regarding the WIU Fall Career and Internship Fair, which will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the University Union Grand Ballroom. There will be more than 50 companies in attendance. This is a great opportunity for students to network with employers and learn about internship and job opportunities available. Reminder: Professional attire is required. The WIU Graduate Program Expo will also be held in conjunction with the career fair.
Rezab passed away Aug. 31.
Gordana Rezab, retired Western archivist and Special Collections librarian, passed away at her home in Macomb on Saturday, Aug. 31.
