Freshman, Transfer and Graduate Numbers Up
Western Illinois University's Fall 2010 new freshman, transfer and graduate student enrollments have increased, while total enrollment for the University declined less than one percent due to large graduating classes in May 2009 and May 2010, according to 10-day enrollment reports.

Thompson Announces Retirement
Jackie Thompson, who has served as
vice president of administrative services since 1997, announced Sept. 13 that she will retire July 31, 2011 after 41 years of service.
"Jackie's significant contributions and leadership will be missed. Her vast knowledge of Western and her insight has made her an invaluable member of the University's administrative team, and has contributed to the many successes and advancement of administrative services at Western over the years," noted WIU President Al Goldfarb.

'Liaisons' African American Studies Speaker Series
The Western Illinois University Department of African American studies will host "Liaisons," a lecture and discussion series, on topics relevant to the study of African American history, culture, and experiences. The closure of West Murray Street (C.T. Vivian Way) on the Western Illinois University campus
has been extended through 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.

Upcoming Talks on Sustainability
The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) will once again sponsor a series of Sustainability Brownbagger events from 12:30–1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in WIU's Leslie F. Malpass Library, third floor.
The first presentation is on Tuesday, Sept. 21: "Sustainability Across the Curriculum from Brainstorm to Action: Realizing Our Education and Outreach Goals" by Amy Patrick Mossman, associate professor of English.

Faculty Summer Stipend Proposals Due Sept. 24
The Western Illinois University Foundation and the Office of Sponsored Projects will award up to 13 summer stipends of $3,000 each for Summer 2011.
Grants and Contracts
Richard Chamberlain and Crystal Hack, CAIT, received $239,760 from the Illinois Community College Board for "GED Illinois Online - Statewide Curriculum Deployment FY11."

Six faculty members in Western Illinois University's College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) were honored recently at the COEHS "Opening of School" reception

Vizdal Named September EOM
Dana Vizdal, an office support specialist in the study abroad office at Western Illinois University, has been named the WIU September Civil Service Employee of the Month.
According to her nominators, "Dana is extremely organized and efficient. She demonstrates both enthusiasm and outstanding performance when carrying out her job duties.
