Information Following Mumps Outbreak

Following the recent outbreaks of mumps on the WIU-Macomb campus, Beu Health Center medical officials would like to remind guests on campus for commencement ceremonies of tips and information to remain healthy. Hand sanitation stations are available at the commencement location and all attendees are encouraged to follow the recommendations listed on the website.

Standard Operating Procedures for Medical Emergencies

For the Macomb Honors Convocation and all Macomb commencement ceremonies:

  • All ceremonies are staffed by Western Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. Western EMS is a non-transport Basic Life Support Service. EMS staff provides direct patient care to the Western Illinois University population and visitors to campus.
  • A public first aid station is located in the east-west hallway on the south side of Western Hall. Western EMS personnel are present in the first aid station and throughout Western Hall at all times during the ceremonies. Appropriate signage is posted leading to the first aid station.
  • Wheelchairs are available throughout Western Hall. One wheelchair is located at the information center in the East Arena at all times for medical emergencies.
