Take Back the Night March and Rally October 17th
The 24th annual Take Back The Night march and rally is coming this Thursday, October 17th. This year’s theme is “It’s Black and White, Take Back The Night,” in response to Robin Thicke’s popular song, “Blurred Lines.”
This event is sponsored by WIU’s Women Center and the Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency (WIRC-CAA) Victims Services Program. Along with these groups IVPI, Feminist Action Alliance (FAA) and also the University Counseling Center and other numerous campus and community offices and organizations are participating as well.
This even will begin at 6:30 PM circle drive. Tables with resources and information will be available to all, along with t-shirts and light sticks for sale.
The rally will start at 7 PM on the steps on Sherman Hall with speakers such as President Jack Thomas and the Mayor of Macomb, Mike Inman along with guest speaker WIU Alumna Kerri True-Funk.
The march will then begin around 7:30 PM starting at Sherman Hall and ending at Chandler Park with survivors speaking out, poems, songs, and more.
